UPDATE: It appears the releases have not been granted – read more at this link.
There’s been a potential update on the status of WWE NXT stars Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid who requested their releases from the company.
Fightful reported yesterday that Fowler and Reid had requested to be released, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer later reported the release had been granted.
However, Meltzer has now provided an update on Wrestling Observer Radio, and the situation doesn’t seem as clear as it seemed yesterday.
He said:
“That’s up in the air now.
“They were telling people that they got the release. I actually heard from someone this morning in WWE and it was, ‘Yeah, they’re gone’, and then later in the day, it was like, ‘I don’t think they got the release’.
“They told people they did, but I got the impression that it’s not necessarily the case, as far as getting the release. So we will have to wait and see for the next couple of days how this all plays out.
“But I don’t think ‘officially officially’. They may have, but it was kind of indicated to me that maybe it wasn’t as official as they thought and everyone down there thought.”

Neither Fowler nor Reid – known together as The Dyad, and members of the Schism faction with Joe Gacy and Ava – have commented publicly since the news came out.
Fowler and Reid were formerly Zack Gibson and James Drake as the Grizzled Young Veterans and were former NXT UK Tag Team Champions before their makeover and name changes in NXT 2.0.
They worked as recently as this past Saturday on the NXT Stand & Deliver pre-show, as Schism lost an eight-person tag match against Chase U and Tyler Bate.
Reid did post a somewhat cryptic tweet after the match (see below). They both attended WrestleMania 39 with the other NXT talent that was in LA.
