The 2023 ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event is set to take place tonight (July 21), and the show has seen many changes due to injury.
The main event for the show will see Claudio Castagnoli defend the ROH World Championship against PAC, but that was far from the original plan.
Claudio was originally set to defend against Mark Briscoe, but that match was cancelled due to Briscoe suffering a knee injury that is likely to keep him out of action for the rest of 2023.
ROH announcer Ian Riccaboni took to Twitter today ahead of the show to share an upsetting stat about the event.
He wrote:
Real talk for a minute: This is the first @ringofhonor #DeathBeforeDishonor without Jay or Mark Briscoe since 2013.
By my count, this is the first PPV/HonorClub (read: non-TV) without them in a long, long time.
Thinking about Jay and @SussexCoChicken tonight.
Last year’s Death Before Dishonor event saw the second clash in the epic trilogy between the Briscoes and FTR for the ROH World Tag Team Championship.
Jay Briscoe sadly passed away back in January while he and Mark reigned as the ROH World Tag Team Champions.
