Next US Title Challenger After Santos Escobar Revealed? WWE

SmackDown star Grayson Waller has revealed his next goal, following the rising star’s eventful time so far on the main roster.

While Waller was called up to SmackDown as part of the WWE Draft in April, WWE have pushed Waller into a more prominent position recently.

The rising star played a key role in a segment with John Cena at Money in the Bank 2023, before facing Hall of Famer Edge in his main roster wrestling debut at the July 7 Madison Square Garden SmackDown show.

Speaking on WWE Die Woche, Waller noted that he’s currently got his eye on the US Championship.

Predicting that he will become the US Champion soon, Waller said:

“There’s a lot, there’s a lot (of championships I have my eyes on in WWE). I’ve done some big things in my career in the WWE.

“I’ve almost done it all but the one thing I haven’t done yet is win a championship so I think it’s time that I need to change that up and the one that I’m looking at is the United States Championship.

“I think that’s a championship with a lot of history, a lot of big names have won that and I look at that division and I’m just like, it’s missing something.

“I think it’s missing Grayson Waller. I had my opportunity in a four-way. Santos (Escobar) stole that match from me. So whether it’s Santos Escobar, Austin Theory, it doesn’t matter.

“I think you’re gonna see Grayson Waller with that United States Championship very soon.

Theory currently holds the US Title after winning a three-way for the gold at Survivor Series in November 2022.

The champion is set to defend his gold on the August 11 edition of SmackDown against US Title Invitational winner Santos Escobar.

As mentioned by Waller, Escobar scored a last-moment victory over Waller in a fourway bout to advance in the US Title Invitational tournament.

With the likes of Shawn Michaels and The Miz previously touting Waller as a future main-eventer, it seems likely that the rising star will eventually earn a shot at some main roster gold.

Escobar won the tournament on the July 28 edition of SmackDown, scoring a victory over Rey Mysterio after the match was stopped due to Mysterio suffering a legitimate injury.

An update has now emerged on the situation surrounding Mysterio, which you can read more about right here.
