On the July 28 episode of WWE SmackDown, Rey Mysterio suffered an injury that stopped his match with Santos Escobar.
It had previously been reported that the outcome of US Title Invitational tournament final had always been a victory for Escobar.
It was also reported that Mysterio’s injury was legitimate, despite other claims that it was part of the story.
Dave Meltzer has now provided an update on Mysterio’s injury on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:
“He’s fine now from what I understand. Fine is a relative term. He got his bell rung twice, I don’t know if it’s a concussion, I don’t know if he’s taking time off.
“Nobody has said anything other than I was told he’s fine.”

It was reported that, before a commercial break, Escobar dropped Mysterio with a dive. When the show returned from commercials, ringside doctors were with Mysterio before the referee awarded the match to Escobar.
It was also stated that Mysterio was unable to complete the match after hitting his head during Escobar’s dive.
Mysterio would break his silence after the match to send a message of support to Escobar.
