Rey Mysterio Breaks Silence Following Legitimate Injury On SmackDown WWE

Rey Mysterio has now broken his silence after getting legitimately knocked out in his match against Santos Escobar.

On the July 28 edition of SmackDown, Rey Mysterio faced off against Santos Escobar to determine the next challenger for the US Championship.

Before a commercial break, Escobar dropped Mysterio with a dive. When the show returned from commercials, ringside doctors were with Mysterio for moments before the referee awarded the match to Escobar, with Mysterio unable to compete after hitting his head during Escobar’s dive.

Escobar took to social media following the match to share a photo of him and Mysterio holding their heads together immediately following the bout.

The US Title #1 contender also shared a photo of the match graphic stating that he will challenge for Austin Theory’s gold on the August 11 edition of SmackDown.

On Instagram, Escobar captioned the photo:

POR. LA. RAZA. 👊🏽☠️❤️‍🔥

Rey Mysterio replied to this Instagram post with words of encouragement for Escobar.

Breaking his silence following his injury, Mysterio wrote:

Let’s FKN Go!!! A ganar!! (to win) 👊🏼🇲🇽👊🏼

You can view Mysterio’s comment below.

Escobar previously defeated Austin Theory in non-title action on the July 21 episode of SmackDown.

There have been conflicting reports surrounding Rey Mysterio’s injury following the bout.

While WRKD Wrestling reported that the injury was storyline, both Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, who initially reported the injury was a storyline but then clarified that he’d heard conflicting info, and PWInsider, have stated that sources have indicated to them that the injury was legitimate.

We continue to wish Rey Mysterio a safe and healthy recovery.

The original plan for the finish of the US Title Invitational final has now been revealed, which you can read more about right here.
