The first trailer for a new wrestling biopic starring Bad Bunny has been released.
Despite being a three-time Grammy Award winner and the most downloaded musical artist in the world, Bad Bunny has shown interest outside of music with the biggest example being his foray into professional wrestling.
Bunny has competed in three wrestling matches so far, including his well received victory over Damian Priest at WWE Backlash this past May.
Now, Bunny will star in a brand new wrestling biopic entitled, “Cassandro.” The first trailer for the film has been released on Amazon Prime’s social media platforms.
The movie is based on the career of legendary Saúl Armendáriz. The movie captures how Saúl came across his trainer Sabrina, who suggested him to compete as an exótico (luchador performing drag). This gave birth to his new identity known as Cassandro.
Gael Garcia Bernal will star in the lead role of Cassandro. Bernal is a Golden Globe Winner and will have the task of playing the famed exótico.
Meanwhile, Bad Bunny will have a supporting role in the movie. The film is also set to star Joaquin Cosio and is directed by Robert Ross Williams.
“Cassandro” is set to be released on September 16 on a Limited Theater release, while it will be available on September 22 via streaming on Amazon Prime.
The movie was originally released with its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2023.
This marks Bad Bunny’s second movie project recently following his appearance in “Bullet Train” starring Brad Pitt. He is also set to star as the superpowered wrestler “El Muerto” in an upcoming movie from Sony’s extended SpiderMan universe.
