Michael Jones, best known as Virgil in WWE, also known as Soul Train Jones and Vincent, has passed away aged 61.
Mark Charles III passed on the unfortunate news on behalf of the Jones family in a Facebook post on February 28.
Charles wrote:
My dear friends, it is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones and more.
Virgil passed peacefully at the hospital this morning and I ask that you pray for him and for his family.
May his memory be eternal!
Virgil had been dealing with various health issues in recent years, being diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer and dementia in 2022 as well as suffering several strokes.
His in-ring career began in 1985, competing under the name of Soul Train Jones in the CWA, before making his name in the WWE as the manager of The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase.
Virgil would eventually feud with DiBiase and capture the Million Dollar Championship from the Hall of Famer at SummerSlam 1991.
After departing WWE in 1995, Virgil would join rival company WCW under the name Vincent – becoming a member of the New World Order.
Despite retiring from active competition in 2000, Virgil would make sporadic in-ring appearances until 2020.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Michael Jones’ family, friends, and everyone affected by his passing.
