Current Champion Admits His Reign Isn’t ‘Anywhere Near’ Previous Champions’ WWE

Kevin Owens has opened up on his and Sami Zayn’s Undisputed Tag Team Championship run thus far, over three months since winning the championships at WrestleMania 39.

Speaking to Inside The Ropes, Owens reflected on their time with the titles thus far, stating that the two have a long way to before matching the record breaking run of The Usos.

Believing that his and Zayn’s stint with the gold is nowhere near the level of the Usos’ run, Owens said:

“One of the things that I was concerned about before winning them is that when we did get them, I wanted to live up to the Usos title reign.

“They did a lot for these titles. They worked very hard to get them to the point where they could main event WrestleMania.

“A lot credit goes to them for that. Honestly, so far in our run, I don’t think we’re anywhere near that.”

While Owens feels they’re not there yet, he reaffirmed his desire to get to the level Jimmy and Jey were at during their 622 day title reign.

“I really want to work very hard to, once we’re all said and done with these titles and somebody else takes them from us, I want our run to be talked about in the same vein as The Usos’, so that’s a challenge in itself because they did really incredible.

“Those guys, if anything, now, finally they’re getting their flowers.

“But they’ve been, in my opinion, underappreciated for a long time, so that was a big concern to me.

“I want to live up to the work they’ve done, and we’re obviously working our heart out to try to make sure that happens.

“So I guess that’s the one concern for us, and that part of it is to make sure these titles stay at the forefront of the stories and keep being as important as they’ve been the last few months.”

As of right now it’s unclear what direction the tag titles are set to go in, with Zayn and Owens last knocking off Smackdown’s Pretty Deadly on June 30.

A new report has detailed eight matches seemingly set for August 5’s SummerSlam Premium Live Event, however, Owens and Zayn are not yet listed in the plans, potentially meaning they could miss out on a second straight PLE.

Another star who has been rising in popularity is LA Knight, who also missed out on appearing on this week’s edition of SmackDown in Madison Square Garden.

Despite this, the mega star’s surging popularity set an impressive new milestone, follow this link here to read on.
