Top WWE Star Says It’s His ‘Destiny’ To Win World Heavyweight Championship WWE

A top star who has yet to ever win a world championship in WWE has said that doing so is his “destiny” ahead of a major upcoming match at WWE Payback.

The ‘King of Strong Style’ Shinsuke Nakamura has won near-enough every prize available to him in his seven years in WWE, however, a world championship has constantly eluded him.

While many expected WWE to never give Nakamura another chance at breaking past the mid-card again, his latest program with current World Heavyweight Champion Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins has some believing his time may finally have come.

Speaking on WWE’s The Bump, Nakamura discussed what he was looking to achieve at Payback on September 2.

“That’s simple, I’ll show what I should be here in WWE. The real ‘King of Strong Style,’ Shinsuke Nakamura.”

Given Rollins’ immense popularity with the WWE fans, Nakamura was asked whether he had concerns over the fan response to him after choosing to target Rollins, replying:

“I don’t think so, they’ll be happy, because they want to see something different.

“I’m going to change something. I believe people want me to change the world.”

Nakamura’s eventual heel turn had been somewhat telegraphed in the weeks prior to his attack on Rollins as his frustrations began to show during his rivalry with Tommaso Ciampa and Bronson Reed.

When asked how he feels about his exchanges with both men he said he felt they got him back to the top of the card in WWE.

“It’s all love, it’s all love, I had to find my way back to where I belong. On top of WWE.”

When it comes to reaching the mountain top of WWE, Nakamura believes it’s not only about his own legacy but the legacy of all of Japan, with no star from the country ever managing to capture the WWE’s biggest prize.

“It’s not only my legacy, I believe it’s the legacy of all Japanese. Also, it is my destiny. Let’s have fun, Seth.”

With no Bloodline presence on the Payback 2023 card, one would imagine that there is a good chance that Rollins vs Nakamura could close the show in Pittsburgh.

As ever, Rollins will not only have to watch Nakamura in front of him, but also behind his back as Señor Money in the Bank Damian Priest will undoubtedly be lurking waiting for the opportune moment to cash-in.
