Surprising WWE Star Praises Gunther’s ‘Prestigious’ Intercontinental Title Reign WWE

The Miz has praised the WWE Intercontinental Championship reign of Gunther for making the title “relevant” and “prestigious”.

An eight-time WWE Intercontinental Champion in his own right, The Miz reflected on Gunther’s reign in an appearance on Comic Book Nation.

Speaking about what Gunther has done for the championship, The Miz said:

“I think he’s doing with the Intercontinental Championship what exactly he should be doing with it, and that is making is relevant, making it prestigious, being involved in meaningful storylines and making it, like mean something.”

The Miz would go on to explore the next steps for Gunther, stating:

“I feel him with the title, he is at a level now, where if he say drop that title, he’s in a mix for a WWE Championship, and that’s what I always felt that title was supposed to be like.

“It was like not necessarily a stepping stone but it was a title that literally builds you until you’re almost like literally level with the World Heavyweight Championship, and then once that title is dropped or you can even go and get two titles, the World title and the Intercontinental title. So I think he’s doing a great job.”

Gunther has been Intercontinental Champion since June 10, 2022, when he defeated Ricochet on that evening’s WWE SmackDown.

July 15, 2023 marked 400 days of Gunther as Intercontinental Champion, with the star moving ever closer to smashing the longest-reigning record held by Honky Tonk Man.

Honky Tonk Man held the championship for 454 days starting in June 2, 1987 until his loss to Ultimate Warrior at WWE SummerSlam on August 29, 1988.
