WWE Ignoring AEW Star Ahead Of Major Match

WWE Ignoring AEW Star Ahead Of Major Match AEW/WWE

WWE is seemingly ignoring the historical presence of a current AEW star who’s actually very relevant ahead of an upcoming big match.

At Survivor Series this coming Saturday, Gunther defends the Intercontinental Championship against The Miz.

Coming out of that match, either the longest ever Intercontinental Title reign in history will continue with a Gunther win, or, if Miz wins, the record for the most IC Title reigns will be equalled.

If Miz wins, it’ll be his ninth IC Title win, which will equal the current record held by… AEW’s Chris Jericho.

WWE has made reference to Miz looking for that record, but not once has Jericho’s name been mentioned as the current record holder.

In fact, as you can see, WWE has deflected things somewhat to a different record held by someone they’re willing to name.

Here’s an excerpt from WWE’s website preview of Gunther vs Miz:

The A-Lister has held the Intercontinental Championship an astounding eight times and is one reign away from tying the record of nine.

Gunther has held the title a record 514 days (531 by the time Survivor Series arrives), while The Miz has spent 592 days as champion. Only Pedro Morales has held the title longer, as the WWE Hall of Famer was champion for a combined 617 days.

It wouldn’t be the first time WWE has specifically not mentioned Chris Jericho’s name, so it’s perhaps not a surprise, but it’s notable that even with some slightly looser rules and Vince McMahon having less of a presence, it’s still happening.

It might change between now and Survivor Series, but thus far, it’s been avoided.
