WWE reportedly has ‘immediate plans’ for a returning WWE World Champion and Hall of Famer, plans which could materialise on Raw in the coming weeks.
John Bradshaw Layfield stepped down from the WWE SmackDown commentary team in September 2017, but has maintained a positive relationship with the company in the years since.
That relationship has now seen him apparently return to the WWE, with plans for JBL being revealed.
PW Insider has reported that, at the October 14 episode of SmackDown, there was backstage talk about JBL being present at WWE Raw in some capacity for a period of several weeks.
JBL has previous appeared as a disembodied voice in a limousine, speaking to Happy Corbin following his loss to Shinsuke Nakamura at the August 27, 2022 episode of SmackDown.
He had also previously spoken of his interest in managing Corbin, saying to Inside the Ropes:
“I Love Baron Corbin. I think Baron Corbin is a really smart guy, and I think Baron Corbin is a guy I would like to manage.”
Corbin may currently be on the SmackDown brand, but that might not stop JBL getting his way, especially with Rey Mysterio recently moving brands.
