There is an internal belief that a current WWE name has to ‘step up’ in their current role if they want to maintain their position.
WWE recently shook up it’s announce teams for Raw and SmackDown, with Michael Cole and Wade Barrett moving over to the Raw brand, while Cole would also remain on SmackDown alongside Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick.
However, Michael Cole is no longer a part of the SmackDown announce team, with Kevin and Corey serving as the two man booth on Friday nights since the new year.
Many have speculated about the future of the pairing due to Patrick’s inexperience, and it seems those within the company also have their concerns.
Per PWInsider Elite (via Wrestle Ops), there are some in WWE watching to see how Kevin Patrick does on the show without Michael Cole there to steer the ship.
There is said to be a feeling in some circles that Patrick ‘really needs to step up’ as an announce in the coming months should he want to maintain that position in the company.
Patrick joined WWE back in 2020, with him serving as a backstage interviewer on the Raw brand before becoming Raw’s lead announcer in 2022.
He had previously been doing some commentary for WWE Main Event.
