WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins put his gold on the line tonight as he took on Bron Breakker for the title (June 20).
With the NXT fans in attendance at the Performance Center showing a great deal of excitement, they certainly enjoyed singing Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins’ song ahead of the big title bout.
In an exciting match, Rollins wasn’t phoning it in because he was in NXT, delivering a mighty trio of dives from between the top two ropes to Breakker on the outside of the ring.
After a further exchange left Rollins and Breakker near the commentary desk, the champ seemed to get a radical idea.
Setting Breakker up, Rollins made an enormous jump from off the top of the turnbuckle to send Breakker crashing through the commentary desk, entirely dismantling it.
However, after several near falls, including Breakker kicking out of a Pedigree, in the end, Rollins was ultimately successful.
Landing two big stomps before he captured the pinfall victory, Rollins stood tall in the end but without giving a long stare to Breakker after the challenging match provides a boost to Bron’s NXT character.
However as Seth Rollins was celebrating at the entrance with the NXT fans, he was suddenly jumped from behind by a hooded figure.
It didn’t take long for the mystery man to reveal himself to be Finn Balor, waging another vicious attack on Seth Rollins after having done much the same last night on WWE Raw.
Balor continued attacking Rollins, leaving the champ vulnerable but making the run-in save at just the right time, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams chased off the Judgment Day leader.
With the crowd now chanting, “Whoop that Trick,” Seth Rollins, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams continued a stare down with Finn Balor as perhaps their alliance is not yet over.
Seth Rollins could probably use some back up to fend off the Judgment Day ahead of Balor and Rollins’ big match at the upcoming premium live event, WWE Money in the Bank.
Elsewhere on tonight’s week one of NXT Gold Rush, multiple main roster appearances including the show kicking off with Mustafa Ali serving as special guest referee in the North American Championship match.
Also, Dana Brooke took on Cora Jade after their bubbling rivalry boiled over last week in a backstage encounter went on to be a brutal battle in the ring and earlier, Melo came face to face with Baron Corbin and had a spicy promo exchange.
