The latest WWE signing has been announced.
PEOPLE held an interview with Gabi Butler, a star of the Netflix show ‘Cheer’, in which she announced that she has signed with WWE.
Butler revealed that she attended WWE SummerSlam in Nashville in July, and was ‘blown away’ by the world of wrestling.
She said:
“I was so involved in the cheerleading industry for so long, and I never really looked into anything other than cheerleading.
“But when I went to SummerSlam, it really just opened my eyes to the athleticism and the dedication the athletes bring into the ring.”
Butler went to compare wrestling to cheerleading, she explained:
“It was almost like I was watching a cheerleading competition, but wrestling edition.
“It’s very related to cheerleading because we’re performers, we’re entertainers, we like to put on a show and we also have to be athletic.”
Butler noted that she spoke to WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon during her trip to SummerSlam, who she credits for inspiring her to take the leap into wrestling.
Butler is set to report to the WWE Performance Center, but said that she hopes to one day have an official match in the company.
She said:
“I would definitely love to take that challenge, hopefully in the future.
“You have to be committed to be wrestling, that’s for sure. It definitely doesn’t look easy.”
WWE also recently revealed the latest batch of Performance Center recruits.
