Two more promos for you now, coming from the US and WWE Title feuds.
First up was Shinsuke Nakamura going off on one about his SummerSlam opponent Jeff Hardy before being interrupted by R-Truth, who is somehow over with the crowd. Nakamura saw off Truth in a quick match later that evening, but it was a promo earlier in the show that will have people talking.
Although it was very much a cut and paste job, Randy Orton came to the ring to argue that no-one respected him, and that he would be forced to take down everyone before he felt like he will have earned the respect he deserves. Surely he will be inserted into the US Title match? You can’t have him spouting like this and then leave him off the card. It will add an extra dynamic to the match which I personally think is very much needed. Jeff, as much as I love him, can hardly move in the ring anymore, so having another guy in there with them will distract from that and make it a much better match.
Lastly, AJ Styles came to the ring for a…PROMO, responding to Samoa Joe’s accusations from last week that he was a poor father and that his family didn’t know who he was anymore.
This was a great promo, as he didn’t just say “no, you’re wrong, silly,” but instead he accepted that he hasn’t been able to look after his daughter as much as he’d have liked, and that he wishes he could spend more time with his family. This made him feel incredibly human, something difficult for WWE stars to achieve given their job is to make us believe the unbelievable.
This whole show made me much more excited for SummerSlam, and that’s all you can really ask for.
