A WWE star has opened up about the fantastic experience he had with The Rock backstage in NXT last year.

The Rock’s last tour of WWE saw him turn up in NXT at New Year’s Evil, being seen on screen with his real-life daughter, Ava, and his People’s Championship.

The Rock wasn’t just making a courtesy call, however, with the segment seeing the legendary WWE star confront Ethan Page.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Page would reflect on that segment, which took place at NXT New Year’s Evil, and whether there was a conversation before or after, saying:

“Honestly, both. That whole experience was fantastic. I would say the best part was getting to be able to tell him, ‘Hey, when I started all this, the number one goal was seeing what I created on screen with what I admired.’

“He was the absolute pinnacle of what I admire from professional wrestling. So he’s, to me, the best. So to get to see what I cultivated in wrestling on screen with my number one wrestler. I mean, there’s nothing else that I need to do, unless he wants to have a match with me.”

After Chris Van Vliet asked if Page is calling The Rock out for a match, Page added:

“Sure, why not? Come on Rock, put your little underwear on. Let’s do it. Everybody wants to see your hamstrings.”

Danhausen also wouldn’t mind getting an opportunity with The Rock, having previously stated that he wants to curse the star.

Having served as the NXT general manager for almost two years, Ava would announce her WWE departure in January 2026.

The Rub Of The Rock

When it comes to former WWE stars returning, there are few that have the ongoing impact of The Rock.

A veritable Hollywood power player, his most recent run may have seen The Rock turn John Cena heel, a somewhat divisive move for the fan favorite, but there’s little argument that The People’s Champion still has to power to draw attention.

A businessman, movie and television actor, with his own production company, The Rock is kept busy with a seemingly endless string of projects, elevating the significance of any appearance in his packed schedule, yet his commitment to the WWE is obvious.

Behind-the-scenes, Dwayne Johnson sits on the TKO board of directors, with company president Mark Shapiro previously commenting on the skills he brings to that role.

There’s little doubt that The Rock will return in the future, particularly in a WWE that still features The Bloodline prominently, yet how and when such an occurrence will manifest is yet to be revealed.

Suffice to say, whenever it happens, the return of The Rock is bound to be a talking point across the media spectrum and far beyond WWE.
