TKO President Mark Shapiro has commented on the strengths that Dwayne Johnson, better known as WWE star The Rock, brings to the board.

A member of the TKO board of directors since January 2024, The Rock continues to serve in that capacity, with Mark Shapiro discussing what the WWE star offers in his role.

Speaking with Yahoo Finance, the TKO President praised Johnson for his commitment to the role, saying:

“He’s everything and more. I mean, he really is. And also he gets back to you like that. Not just because he’s on the board, that’s who he is. I’m not sure he sleeps.

“He’s an investor, he’s an entrepreneur, he’s an actor. He’s one of the biggest stars in the history of WWE. He’s an owner in the UFL.

“I mean, he’s just a magnetic personality, and he’s kind of what you see is what you get. He truly cares about his audience in a very real, personal, and meaningful way.”

Johnson was recently named as one of the “Greatest Self-Made Americans” in a list of luminaries released by Forbes.

Last appearing at WWE Elimination Chamber in 2025, The Rock would be instrumental in kicking off the heel run of John Cena.

With his Seven Bucks Production company being a reference to the amount of money Johnson had after being released by the Canadian Football League and before signing his first WWE deal in 1996, seeing where the stars career has headed is nothing short of startling.

From a rocky start in WWE, which saw him as “The Blue Chipper” Rocky Maivia, Johnson was reborn and when he dropped that persona and became The Rock and headed into a legendary career.

It’s his journey beyond the ring that also garners international recognition. A big screen run that started with 2001’s The Mummy Returns, Johnson has built a filmography that is arguably the envy of any start that may wish to follow him to Hollywood. Few who have taken their chances in the movie world have been able to emulate a fraction of his success, with John Cena and Dave Bautista being the standouts.

Oscar success for The Smashing Machine may have evaded Johnson, despite his critically acclaimed performance as MMA fighter Mark Kerr, but that doesn’t mean that the WWE star has turned his back on the movie world, with Jumanji: Open World and the live-action Moana both set for release in the near future.

Even a future run in WWE is far from out of the question. Johnson hasn’t retired, last competing at WrestleMania 40, teaming with Roman Reigns as The Bloodline defeated Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins at the April 2024 Premium Live Event. A part-time career does nothing to dampen the anticipation that the fans have for a potential return.

A hugely bankable Hollywood power, a popular WWE star, and a multi-talented businessman, The Rock brings heightened mainstream interest wherever he appears. Quite an achievement for a man who had just $7 in his pocket thirty years ago.
