17-time WWE world champion John Cena has commented on his life post-in-ring-retirement, revealing his one goal in the company as a non-wrestler.

With John Cena stepping away from the ring following his loss to GUNTHER at the December 13, 2025 Saturday Night’s Main Event special, the decorated star has made the transition into a non-physical WWE role.

Speaking with The Takedown on SI, Cena stated that his goal is to leave the pro-wrestling business in better shape than when he joined, hence his recent projects.

John Cena said:

“I just want to try to develop a way to pay it back and pay it forward for all the moments I was able to have.

“My goal is to leave the business better than I found it and there has to be some acumen behind it. (This is) a chance for the business to continue to get energy from me, because they’ve given me so much energy.”

“I pride myself as a brand partner, because that’s great for WWE. It’s great for us individually. People around the world, around the globe, take pro wrestling more seriously, which leaves the business better than you found it. That’s all I’m trying to do.”

Cena has made several WWE appearances in recent months, notably hosting both nights of WrestleMania 42.

The Saturday, April 18 show saw Cena involved in a segment during which Bianca Belair publicly announce her pregnancy, one day before Cena stood alongside Danhausen and his Minihausens on April 19.

John Cena made headlines at WWE Backlash, where he announced the John Cena Classic, a show where a champion will be crowned, determined entirely by a popular fan vote.
