With Nikki Bella sidelined, Paige says “we are missing you” as she continues to team with Brie as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Paige made her WWE return at WrestleMania 42, replacing Nikki Bella, who was out of action due to injury, as Brie’s tag team partner, capturing the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
The May 18 WWE Raw episode saw Paige and Brie Bella retain the Women’s Tag Team Championship against The Judgment Day (Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez).
Following the match, the former AEW star shared love for her tag team partner, and stated that she misses Nikki, in a post on Twitter that reads:
“Loving tagging with my girl Brie!! We are fighting champions to the max! Defending these bad boys nonstop.
“But! We are missing you Nikki. Come home soon 🥹❤️”
The post was accompanied by a video of both champions walking in slow motion, with their title belts over their shoulders.
Brie has recently revealed how Paige replacing Nikki came into being at WrestleMania 42, with the injured twin noting that Triple H had given her the option to say no to the pitch.
What’s Old Is New Again
The idea of The Bella Twins back in WWE seemed like something that was never going to happen for quite some time, but this year’s Royal Rumble saw Brie finally make her return, and an in-ring reunion would follow.
Disappointingly, The Bella Twins would manage only two matches as a returning tag team, with their match on March 20 episode of SmackDown against The Irrestistible Forces (Lash Legend & Nia Jax) ending in no contest, while a victory over Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair would follow on the March 27 episode, but championship glory was clearly always the plan, with their WrestleMania 42 match being derailed and Paige stepping in to replace the injured sister.
The Bella Twins and Paige have shown that their respective returns are more than just a nostalgia pop. As WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Brie Bella and Paige have competed consistently since their WrestleMania 42 win, with May seeing three televised matches to date.
More than capable of performing at the highest level, both veteran stars continue to stand toe-to-toe with a women’s roster that has evolved since their last respective runs, yet pays homage to the legacy that Brie, Nikki and Paige all helped pave.
Alongside AJ Lee, The Bella Twins are listed as ‘free agents’ on the WWE roster page, while Paige is listed in the ‘current’ section, but without an associated brand. Allowing such stars to appear across brands is certainly an interesting move, proving many opportunities for feuds on Raw, SmackDown, or even NXT, and leading to the possibility that some stars may find themselves elevated through exposure to veterans with undeniable staying power.
