WWE recently filed to trademark the name ‘Ultranueva’, which could have big implications for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

A recent sea of new faces have debuted for WWE and NXT this year, with a lot of international talent in both NXT and AAA now becoming prominent mainstays on television.

The tag team division in NXT has also greatly been boosted this year, with the formation of new teams and the return to NXT for names like the Creed Brothers and Fraxiom, as well as appearances from AAA stars like the Wagner Brothers.

WWE files trademark for ‘Ultranueva’

Today, a new WWE tag team name was seemingly confirmed, when WWE filed the trademark Ultranueva on October 1.

The description for the filing reads:

IC 041: Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.

Who Ultranueva is likely for & Dusty Rhodes Classic implications

While nothing has been confirmed about which team will use the name, many fans have noted that it means ‘Ultra New’ in Spanish.

While technically true, the ‘nueva’ part likely comes from ‘estrella nueva’, which is the Spanish translation for ‘Nova’, literally meaning ‘New Star’.

Noam Dar has called himself Supernova 11 for most of his career, and with the new filing reading as ‘Ultranova’, and Dar now tag team partners with a Spanish wrestler in Romeo Moreno, it seems most likely that the name will be used as the tag team name for Dar and Moreno.

Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno are among the favourites to win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, recently picking up a first round win over Los Americanos, and with WWE now seemingly running with the two as an official team, they will likely now be considered the outright favourites to win the tournament.
