WWE’s Original Plans For Shayna Baszler

WWE’s Original Plans For Shayna Baszler

Following a move to the USA Network in September 2019, NXT defeated both Raw and Smackdown last weekend at Survivor Series.

For the last few months, WWE has worked at establishing NXT as a third brand alongside the main roster rather than developmental. This has been seen through Killian Dain and Finn Balor moving from Smackdown back to NXT.

One of the wrestlers who was really put over as a threat at Survivor Series was Shayna Baszler. The NXT Women’s Champion defeated Bayley and Becky Lynch in the main event of the pay-per-view last weekend.

It was then reported soon after that WWE wants to move Shayna Baszler to the main roster in the near future as a result of her performance. It has been speculated that Baszler could be brought up to feud with Becky Lynch.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE originally wanted Baszler to be called-up to the main roster in early 2020.

|The idea of the match, and really the entire angle, was for Baszler. Baszler carries herself and talks like a badass bully. The original plan was for her to be on the main roster in 2020. Based on so much of the build, and the match and post-match, it appeared she was being groomed for Lynch.”

Baszler will likely be dropping the NXT Women’s Championship to Rhea Ripley in the coming months, so a move to Raw to feud with Lynch is not out of the question.
