Here is a brief rundown of the SmackDown Live happenings this week:
AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura signed the contracts for their Money in the Bank Last Man Standing match in a backstage segment presided over by Paige. This segment was only noteworthy for the champion getting riled up by Shin’s mind games. It ended with Styles giving Nakamura a slap before being dragged off by officials. Shinsuke was amused by this.
The New Day beat The Miz, Rusev and Samoa Joe when Big E pinned The Miz after the Midnight Hour. This came after The Miz accidentally threw pancakes at his two partners who attacked and walked out on him. The New Day now have bright orange ‘Pancake Power’ T-shirts, by the way.
Becky Lynch scored a huge upset win over Charlotte Flair by submission to the Disarmer.
Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas attacked Sin Cara during a backstage interview.
Naomi and Jimmy Uso defeated Aiden English and Lana after Uso super kicked English.
Karl Anderson scored a roll-up win over Bludgeon Brother Harper.
Carmella did a typically strong in-ring promo mocking Asuka. The Empress of Tomorrow came out but so did Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. “GIVE ME BOTH!” yelled Asuka. This led to a 2 on 1 handicap match. Asuka won with the Asuka Lock on Deville. Afterwards Carmella beat down her MITB challenger.
Big Cass did a bog-standard and loooong heel interview with Renee Young running down Daniel Bryan for being short again. “A good big man will always defeat a good little man,” he said, clearly forgetting the result at Backlash.
This week the run of good SmackDown shows came to a shuddering halt. And there was no Daniel Bryan. These two things may be connected.
