Who needs a guaranteed contract these days? Certainly not James Ellsworth because Rajah.com is reporting that the star hasn’t actually signed an agreement with WWE and is working on a per-date basis.
In an unusual turn of events, main roster talent is usually required to adhere to a strict contract which doesn’t allow them to compete anywhere other than WWE, the inaugural World Inter-Gender Champion is allowed to miss live events in favor of working indie shows.

This, of course, means that WWE has no major plans for Ellsworth because he could vacate the company at any time without notice. That is the freedom his current deal allows. However, while he’s making more money than he ever thought possible and is one of the few males WWE seem to trust in inter-gender bouts, most are inclined to believe he’ll stay around for the foreseeable future.
After leaving the promotion in 2017, Ellsworth returned at Money in the Bank in June to assist Carmella in retaining the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship against Asuka. He has since been involved in the feud; being touted as the main reason the ‘Empress of Tomorrow’ doesn’t currently possess gold. He will resume the same role in Carmella’s current story with Becky Lynch.
