Yesterday, WWE Home Video unveiled its major Christmas 2018 release to the world and it left some asking questions. That’s because this year’s festive title is ‘WWE 24: The Best of 2018 – Director’s Cut!’ In other words, everything we already get on the WWE Network.
As of now, the plan is to include the breadth of Network documentaries released this year including, ‘WrestleMania Orlando’, ‘Empowered’, ‘Raw 25’, and the excellent ‘The Hardy’s: Woken’. Once they’re circulated on the streaming service, at least four more, including the Ronda Rousey special will also be added to the line-up.

For the few who don’t already subscribe, this will be a joyous announcement, as now they can feast on these usually delectable offerings. However, those of us who do subscribe are left wondering what we pay our subscriptions for. The whole point of joining up is to access exclusive content such as this, but if they’re releasing that subject matter on hardcopy, including monthly pay-per-view events which has been the norm since the 80’s, then surely we could save some money by waiting for the DVD release to drop in price instead of paying a regular monthly fee.
Think we’re being melodramatic? Well WWE Network exclusive the Greatest Royal Rumble will also be released on DVD in November. That’s something we can all look forward … to avoiding. Worse, the box-set will feature extras not available on the Network which means subscribers will have to pay twice to access them. Once for their monthly contribution and again for the hardcopy should they wish to see them.
Despite being a clear attempt to make more money out of those already paying through the nose, ‘WWE 24: The Best of 2018 – Director’s Cut’ will be available in December in time for Christmas and will round out WWE Home Video’s schedule for the year.
Does this irk you as well, do you believe it’s a blatant attempt for WWE to make more money, or are you glad they’re becoming available on disc to keep for prosperity? WrestleTalk invite you to join us in the discussion on Twitter and Discord.
