The return of Rey Mysterio to WWE after months of speculation was finally confirmed recently, but no date was given for his return.
According to reports, Mysterio was at one point scheduled to make his comeback in a surprise appearance at next week’s Australian special Super Showdown.
Now, according to WrestleVotes, plans have changed and Mysterio will in fact make his WWE comeback at SmackDown 1000 on October 16.
Regarding Rey Mysterio, some within the company wanted a “surprise pop” for the Australia stadium show coming up on Saturday, however I’m hearing his return is more likely to happen in 2 weeks at SmackDown 1000. Mysterio was a staple of SD in the early days. Makes sense.

Mysterio was a staple of SmackDown during his previous spell with the company. He spent the majority of his WWE career on the blue brand, winning the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 22.
According to an exclusive report on Ringside News, WWE officials are lining up a United States Title bout between Shinsuke Nakamura and Mysterio at Crown Jewel, which takes place just over two weeks after SmackDown 1000. A Mysterio appearance on the special could be used to set up a programme between the two.
From there, Mysterio is expected to enter a rivalry with Andrade “Cien” Almas over the title, with a potential WrestleMania showdown between the two in the works.
Already confirmed for SmackDown 1000 is the WWE return of Batista after four years away, as Evolution reunite in full for the first time in over a decade.
