The IWGP Intercontinental Championship is the latest title to change hands at Wrestle Kingdom 13. Tetsuya Naito defeated Chris Jericho in a brilliant No-DQ match to win back the Intercontinental title.
Naito and Jericho had a wild brawl filled with dozens of cane shots and chair shots. In the end, Naito was able to kick out of multiple Codebreakers and hit Jericho with two Destinos for the win. To this point, all seven title matches have resulted in title changes.
Tetsuya Naito lost the Intercontinental Championship to Chris Jericho at Dominion 6.9 in June. Since then, Jericho defended the title against Naito’s LIJ stablemate, EVIL. After defeating EVIL at Power Struggle, Jericho was attacked by Naito. This set up the two men’s rematch at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
Naito has had a toxic relationship with the Intercontinental Championship ever since he was removed from the Wrestle Kingdom 8 main event spot in favor of the Intercontinental title match. Since then, Naito has won the title three times, treating the belt with disdain with each reign. It remains to be seen how Naito’s relationship with the title will change here in his third reign.
