Last week we received the sad news that NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa would be undergoing neck surgery that will likely keep him our of action for up to nine months.
Although it hasn’t been officially announced, Ciampa will have to relinquish his NXT Championship belt and therefore we need to find out who is going to hold it next.
Due to the surgery announcement and last week’s NXT taping taking place so close together, there was no time for anything to be recorded for the episode, but now that a week has gone by, it’s likely that something will be announced, presumably by William Regal or Triple H.
We reported last week that two potential candidates for the vacated belt are leader of the Undisputed Era Adam Cole (bay bay) and the King of Bros Matt Riddle.
We will almost certainly get a better idea of what the future of NXT’s main event will be tonight, but with TakeOver: New York less than four weeks away, they really need to get a move on.
The most likely scenario would seem to be a multi-man match for the vacated belt, and with plenty of big names in NXT currently without a match, it could be sensational.
