Stipulation Added To WWE Stomping Grounds Match

Poll a sample of hundreds, even thousands of WWE fans about who they want to see Seth Rollins defend the Universal Title against at Stomping Grounds and chances are not one of them will say Baron Corbin.

It’s not just that Corbin is duller than dishwater, it’s more down to the booking. Corbin had his shot at Super Showdown and he lost.

Yes, he was distracted by the referee, but the way WWE booked it made it his own fault, not Rollins’. It makes no sense that he would be granted another shot.

Well, WWE can never be accused of being a stickler for giving fans what they want so Corbin vs. Rollins is happening again in less than two weeks time at Stomping Grounds.

In an effort to make it different and to play off the Super Showdown finish (at least there is some storyline consistency), the match will have a special guest referee, hand-picked by the challenger, as revealed by Corbin on Raw last night.

Let’s ignore for now the fact that the psychology of this is backwards. A wronged heel should never be justified in his complaint. It makes them sympathetic. Where’s the heat for that?

There is no official word yet on who the special referee for the match will be. However, on Raw Sami Zayn made his claim and was installed as the second referee for the Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens main event. He cost Rollins the match via DQ and looks the most likely candidate for the role.

Elsewhere on the show Paul Heyman teased that Brock Lesnar would be the referee. Sorry Paul, but we have heard too many broken promises from Brock to believe that one now. “Wolf” has been cried one too many times.
