Last week on Smackdown, Kevin Owens turned babyface by attacking Dolph Ziggler after their main event tag team match with Heavy Machinery. The pair are seemingly now locked in a feud and are set to go one-on-one tonight on Smackdown.
However, it is being reported by Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select that Kevin Owens wasn’t the original feud planned for Dolph Ziggler following his two consecutive pay-per-view matches with Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship.
Sapp is reporting that the former World Heavyweight Champion was actually set to work a programme with Ali.
The feud is said to have been “tabled” and is being considered for a later date. There is no word on why WWE decided to go with Kevin Owens as the man to face Ziggler at this time instead of Ali.
Instead of working with Ziggler, WWE has been hype promo packages for Ali in recent weeks where he has been teasing a character change. In the promos, Ali promises to win the WWE Championship, hinting a big push is in his future.
As well as explaining why he took time off, Dolph Ziggler has confirmed that he is now a full-time member of the WWE roster and will be appearing on TV each-and-every week. This means that it is totally plausible for Ali and Ziggler to feud at some point in the near future.
