Next week on the ‘season premiere’ of Monday Night Raw, Dio Maddin will be making his main roster commentary debut after a few weeks on 205 Live.
Maddin is set to be joined by fellow 205 Live announcer Vic Joseph, and WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler.
The decision to promote Maddin so soon in his commentary career is a rather strange one, as we are yet to see how good he really is.
With regards to who made the call to give the job to Maddin, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the decision was made by Raw’s Executive Director Paul Heyman.
The report states that Maddin was an “outside the box” hire for Paul Heyman, who is a reportedly a very big fan.
It should be noted that Jerry Lawler is only on Raw commentary on a short-term basis, and will be replaced in the near future, possibly by Mickie James.
