Independent promotion Southside Wrestling Entertainment revealed last week that WWE had pulled some NXT UK stars from appearances at an upcoming show.
This led to All Elite Wrestling’s Executive Vice Presidents offering to send a few AEW roster members to the show to help out.
The reason why WWE pulled El Ligero, Joseph Conners and NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray from the show was initially not known.
However, it has since been reported PWInsider that WWE made the decision to pull their contracted talented from the Southside Wrestling show due to a merger that is around the corner.
According to the site, WWE pulled the talent as Southside Wrestling is set to merge with Rev Pro, one of the UK’s top independent promotions,
Rev Pro has a deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling, and top NJPW stars including Hiroshi Tanahashi, Zack Sabre Jr and Will Ospreay have wrestled for Rev Pro in the past.
It is also reported that an incident with Rev Pro referee Aaren Wilde and Josh Bodom, which led to the latter being fired from the promotion, caused WWE to pull the talent from the show over fears of a PR backlash.
