AEW has announced the signing of British Olympic medallist Anthony Ogogo.
The announcement was made at the Southside Wrestling farewell show ahead of its merge with RevPro. He was confronted by MJF, laid him out, and said he’d be seeing him on Wednesday nights.
AEW Executive Vice President Cody also took to Twitter to confirm the signing, and declared Ogogo AEW’s first developmental project:
I’m thrilled about this signing. Anthony will be our first developmental project as a company. For those who followed his boxing career and saw his Olympic acumen, you’ll be happy to see he’s now applying that passion and work-ethic to pro-wrestling training. Welcome Anthony!

Ogogo – from Lowesoft, England – won the bronze medal in boxing at London 2012, and would go on to have a professional boxing record of 11-1.
He was actually featured on The Road To Double Or Nothing YouTube series in April, suggesting the announcement has been in the works for quite a while.
You might recall this is the Southside show that WWE pulled a bunch of talent from, including Ligero, Joseph Conners, Kay Lee Ray and more. The idea was to celebrate the stars that put Southside on the map for its final show.
AEW officials saw this and intervened, with the likes of Cody, MJF and Shawn Spears all working the show instead to fill the gaps.
