Last week, Xavier Woods suffered an Achilles tendon injury that could put him out of action for up to a year.
The injury is so severe that Booker T has suggested Woods may never be able to wrestle again.
Not only will this affect him, but it is likely to have a huge effect on his New Day stable-mates Kofi Kingston and Big E, who will presumably now be a duo.
The New Day has been one of WWE’s biggest teams of the past decade, and according to Dave Meltzer, the plan was for the trio to once again become the top babyface team on SmackDown prior to the injury to Woods.
Many fans have speculated that there surely has to be some kind of New Day heel turn coming, most likely from Big E, but this injury to Woods looks to have erased any thought of that.
Kingston and Big E are more than capable of carrying the team for now, particularly as Big E had to do it for 6 months with Woods while Kingston was off being WWE Champion.
WWE has a very limited selection of tag teams on both Raw and SmackDown, and the only non-jobber teams available for the New Day to feud with are The Revival and Ziggler and Roode (assuming Heavy Machinery doesn’t turn heel).
You can keep calling for a New Day heel turn, but for now at least it seems that it’ll be the Big E and Kofi show going forward.
