The Undertaker was the first guest on Steve Austin’s new WWE Network show “Broken Skull Sessions”, and the two legends had a lot to talk about.
For many it would have been the first time they had ever seen ‘Taker out of character, and so it was fascinating to see him talk about his career up to this point.
One of the main talking points was how the gimmick originally came about, and it turns out Vince McMahon was the man behind it.
“It was originally his [Vince’s] creative vision, but he gave me a lot of creative liberty with it. He trusted me when I felt like I needed to turn into the American Bad Ass. He obviously must have felt it too. We’ve butted heads and things have been rough, but at the end of the day, our passion is the same. We want to put out the best product possible.”
He was asked by Austin why he never left the company despite having several opportunities to do so in his lengthy career.
“I never forgot who gave me my first opportunity, and that was Vince. It’s probably not the most sound business decision. But that’s who I am and if that ship went down I was going to go down with him. But I knew eventually it would turn.”
I would imagine being paid millions also helps.
