In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has speculated why there have been no matches officially announced for WWE TLC. Not surprisingly, Vince McMahon is ultimately behind not making anything official at this point.
However, unlike many of the decisions Vince McMahon makes, this one seems to have some rationale behind it. According to Meltzer, WWE pay-per-views are now all about getting network subscriptions.

Apparently, WWE subscriptions get the most boost on the actual day of the event. Vince believes making match announcements either the day before or on the actual day of the event will entice more fans to make the spur of the moment decision to sign up for the network.
Because of this last-minute signing up, McMahon also believes there is no reason to rush into any decisions. Of course, this means this provides more time for him to change his mind. As we’ve seen, Vince is inclined to change his mind at the last minute.

I guess the old philosophy of actually booking high-quality angles and storylines that people will pay to see the pay-off is not something Vince believes in. Maybe he should actually try it.
At this point, the rumored matches for the card are as follows:
- Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin in a Stipulation Match (Rumored to be a dog collar match)
- Buddy Murphy vs. Aleister Black
- Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch vs. The Kabuki Warriors for the Women’s Tag Team Titles
- Rusev vs. Bobby Lashley with Lana
- The Viking Raiders vs. Gallows and Anderson for the Raw Tag Team Titles
- The Fiend vs. Daniel Bryan
- Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Braun Strowman for the Intercontinental Title
- The New Day vs. Roode/Ziggler for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles
- Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens
- Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles
That’s 10 matches and an interesting card. Of course, with Vince waiting to the last minute these are very much a rumor and subject to change.
One match Dave Meltzer is saying could change is The Fiend vs. Daniel Bryan. It might be pushed to a later date. If that happens, we could get The Miz vs. The Fiend, instead.
We’re a little over a week away from TLC. A lot can change in a week. One thing will never change. Vince McMahon continues to be an enigma.
