We now have clarification as to whether the December 18 AEW Dynamite match between Chris Jericho and Jungle Boy will be for Jericho’s AEW World Title.
The match was announced during this past Wednesday’s show as Jericho was listing off names who he wouldn’t be facing for the rest of 2019, and Jungle Boy just happened to not be on there.
When this happened, some fans were confused as to why Jungle Boy would get a title shot when he’s not won a single match in AEW yet (which is quite surprising in itself), considering the impetus the promotion puts on its win/loss records.
Executive Vice President Cody has taken to Twitter to alleviate these concerns and confirm the match will not be for the championship:
It’s not a title shot. Gonna’ be a great match though friend.

However, All Elite has proven before that the number of wins and losses isn’t the be all and end all, and the nature of each result also comes into play when deciding the rankings.
That suggests that if Jungle Boy does go over Jericho on December 18, he could shoot up the rankings despite his current 0-8 record and potentially be in line for a future title match.
