As has now been said a number of times, last night’s WrestleMania main event, the boneyard match between Undertaker and AJ Styles, was very well received.
It garnered a lot of praise for the cinematic, over-the-top way it was presented, not just from fans, but also from many names from inside the world of pro-wrestling.
One man in particular has been known in recent times as the standard bearer for this type of match, and that is of course new AEW star Matt Hardy.
Hardy took to Twitter to address the boneyard match, and many fans suggesting it seemed to take influence from his Broken Universe bouts.
He wrote:
My twitter feed exploded.
Thanks for all the love, folks.. I’m truly honored. Cinematic matches 100% work with the right characters, scenario & fanbase – I envisioned them as a new branch of pro wrestling years ago.
Much like TLC did, The #BROKEN Universe will leave its mark.
Hardy isn’t the only one who’s had his say, as WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley also chimed in with what he dubbed as an urgent appeal to Vince McMahon, saying: “Mr. McMahon, may I please be in next year’s boneyard match at WrestleMania?”.
Perhaps the most exciting part about WWE pulling off a cinematic match like the boneyard match as well as it did is that it can fill us with hope that tonight’s Firefly Fun House match between John Cena and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt will be just as successful.
