On the SmackDown following WrestleMania 36, The Forgotten Sons debuted on the main roster. The debut caught many people by surprise, with the trio not being an act that many people thought would appear on the main roster at this point.
It would appear that there is a reason for the debut being such a shock, and that is because it wasn’t planned until one of SmackDown’s tag teams was written off TV through injury.
A report emerged at the weekend suggesting that Jimmy Uso, who has been seen on WWE TV in a number of weeks, had suffered a nasty knee injury during the WrestleMania 36 taping and is expected to miss between six and nine months of in-ring competition.
As a result of The Usos being written off TV, Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE higher-ups made the call to bring up The Forgotten Sons to provide some depth to SmackDown’s tag team ranks.
“The Jimmy Uso one is why the tag team program was changed a little bit and the Forgotten Sons were brought up.”
WWE’s plans for the SmackDown Tag Team division were not known prior to Jimmy Usos’ injury, but we now know that Forgotten Sons, The Miz & John Morrison, Lucha House Party and New Day will compete in a four-way match at Money in the Bank this weekend for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
