More details have emerged regarding IMPACT Wrestling firing its World Champion Tessa Blanchard and stripping her of the championship.
Fightful Select is reporting that Blanchard’s contract was due to come up on June 30 anyway, despite being advertised to defend the World Championship in a five-way match at Slammiversary on July 18. That match is no longer on the promotion’s event page.
Blanchard had been absent from IMPACT TV during the pandemic, and although she couldn’t travel, the promotion had asked her to tape some material to air, but she asked for a day rate and the two parties couldn’t agree on terms.
PWInsider details that the footage was originally going to be a sit-down interview with announcer Josh Mathews. IMPACT never received any footage.
The Fightful Select report adds that there’s said to be interest in Blanchard from other promotions, but which ones weren’t specified. However, a specific point was made to note that the controversy surrounding Blanchard earlier this year had nothing to do with the decision to fire her.
Blanchard has yet to comment on the termination.
