Jeff Hardy is currently in a big feud with Sheamus and some fans aren’t loving the focal point of the story. Basically, Sheamus’ character is bullying Hardy’s for being a former addict and trying to tempt him into falling back into bad habits.
Hardy was a guest on WWE’s The Bump. In his appearance, he compared his current feud to the one he had with CM Punk years ago. He said the feud with Sheamus is great motivation.
“It’s definitely a huge motivator, man. Since my early 20’s, I’ve been in and out of addiction – the roller coaster of good and bad. Sadly, but in a creative sense, it’s been a big power for me.
“Even back in the days of feuding with [CM] Punk, it kind of reminds me of that with Sheamus. It can be extremely uncomfortable at times, but that’s when I’ve got to stay strong on my beliefs, and where I am right now.”
Uncomfortable is right. Sheamus forcing Jeff to take a urine test and stand in a ring with booze is not exactly kid-friendly, wholesome behavior.
CM Punk treated Jeff similarly in their feud previously, but Punk was more straight-edge and was trying to convince Hardy not to do those things. While that sounds admirable, Punk was definitely a jerk in doing so.
Hardy clearly doesn’t have any hard feelings about the Punk storyline though. He shared this about Punk cashing in the Money in the Bank Briefcase against him back in 2009:
“I was so excited for him [cashing in his MITB briefcase]. I was ok being a tremendous loser that night because if you’re a good loser in pro wrestling, you’re a much better winner in the bigger scheme of things.”
I hope Sheamus doesn’t watch The Bump. If he does, he’ll definitely be able to use the above line as a promo.
