If recent developments and reports add up, we could be seeing another WWE name change for a popular star on the SmackDown brand.
We noted on the site earlier that the influence of Daniel Bryan is resulting in the pushes of several underused WWE stars, with one specific example being Shorty G.
As touched on briefly in that story, WrestlingNews.co notes that there has been talk about dropping the Shorty G name and going back to Chad Gable.
The Shorty G name came about last year during a program with King Corbin who beat G in the final of the King of the Ring tournament, but as of last night’s SmackDown, it seems the two have actually formed an alliance.
Corbin essentially offered G money to take out Matt Riddle and G took him up on that, saving Corbin from a Riddle beatdown later in the show. When Corbin was trying to persuade G to agree to help him, he made a point of calling him “Chad” several times.
If the reports of Bryan being behind the pushes of underused stars like G is accurate and depending on how this partnership with Corbin plays out, we could be back to having Chad Gable pretty soon.
We actually have a tracker on the site which lists every WWE name change so far this year, which can be found at this link.
