In a recent interview with WrestleTalk’s Louis Dangoor, former WWE star Matt Sydal revealed that he was in discussions with WWE in 2016 about returning to the company to be part of the Cruiserweight Classic.
Sydal (formerly Evan Bourne) noted that he spoke with WWE at the time that they were working on the Cruiserweights tournament. However, he noted that he was also speaking to NJPW at the time, and opted to work with the latter:
“When the cruiserweight tournament was originally happening, I talked to them about that. But at the time I was also talking to New Japan, and I just chose New Japan over WWE. It was kind of an easy choice for me at the time”.
Since leaving WWE in 2013, Sydal has gone on to wrestle for the likes of Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling, NJPW, EVOLVE and Rev Pro. His most recent appearance came at AEW All Out as part of the Casino Battle Royale.
Matt Sydal will be part of the ROH Pure Championship tournament that kicks off this weekend on Ring of Honor TV.
The full interview between Louis and Matt Sydal, where he talks about his status following AEW All Out and scary Shooting Star Press at the show, his style of wrestling and much more, will be out next week.
