Here are the latest updates regarding the trademark filing battle that is going on between AEW executive vice president Cody and WWE.
Cody had previously filed to trademark “Slamboree” and “Match Beyond”. PWInsider is now reporting that WWE filed to oppose Cody’s filings for those on September 21.
In its opposition, WWE stated that it purchased the rights to those concepts when it bought WCW in 2001.
It was added that they are currently in use on the WWE Network and the company’s website, and those terms are “indelibly linked” to be exclusively associated with WWE.
The company called Cody’s attempt to file to trademark those concepts an “attempt to unfairly trade on the long-standing use and recognition”.
Cody is also having some trouble with his attempts to trademark ‘The American Dream’, which you can read more about at this link.
