One of the more controversial acts by WWE this year was putting a ban on their wrestlers using third-party platforms. As a number of stars use things like Twitch, this was a red flag for many. Now, we know WWE stars met with Vince McMahon to try and change his mind.
PWInsider reported that stars talked to McMahon about the Twitch ban in a last-ditch effort to change his mind. Evidently, it did not work. A number of WWE stars such as AJ Styles, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, and Mia Yim shut down their streams on Thursday. AJ Styles posted a statement on his Discord regarding the decision to shut down his stream.
The most vocal about the decision was Paige who broke down in tears over WWE taking away her only platform to interact with fans. Paige, of course, retired after a second neck injury in 2017.
The decision to ban third-party platforms was heavily criticized by former U.S. Presidential candidate Andrew Yang. As WWE stars are considered independent contractors, Yang criticized WWE for taking away another way for their talent to make money.
