While Sting may have signed a full-time deal with AEW, with the reports suggesting there are plans to use him as a regular character on Dynamite, fans shouldn’t expect to see the WCW icon wrestling anytime soon.
Dave Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio last night that the WWE Hall of Famer won’t be taking any bumps for AEW following his debut on Dynamite last night, this is due to his history of neck problems.
Meltzer also noted that if Sting does do anything physical, it will be done with the utmost precaution and with safety measures in place to limit the chance of anything going wrong and Sting getting badly injured.
This does leave the door open for the potential of cinematic matches, the likes of which we have seen a lot of this year due to the pandemic. Things like that are pre-taped, so safety measures can be put into place to allow Sting to perform.
While Sting will reportedly be a regular character on Dynamite, it is unclear what AEW is planning on having him do every week. Some have speculated he will be the manager for Darby Allin, so potentially this is something AEW could look to do.
Speaking of Sting, some rather interesting backstage details about his debut have emerged courtesy of Fightful Select. You can check out more information about that story by clicking right here.
