Over the last few days, people from across the wrestling world have been sharing their memories of Brodie Lee (real name Jon Huber) after the AEW star tragically passed away after a battle with a non-COVID related lung issue at the weekend.
Taking to Instagram, Sami Zayn shared a story and some accompanying photos of a time at the beach several years ago where he pretended to be the father of Huber’s son Brodie.
May 2013, Tampa. This was a really memorable and special day at the beach, that we would talk about for years to come. This was during the FCW days. I had only been there about 3 or 4 months and it was the first time I experienced a large group of friends getting fired. This was a few days after that, so we all went to the beach together, and it was a sort of cleansing experience.
To pop the boys I went around telling women I was a single dad & Brodie Jr. was my son. The weirdest part is Brodie Jr. brought that up to Brodie like 4 or 5 years later, “dad remember that day at the beach where Sami Zayn was saying I was his son and talking to girls?” What? How could you possibly remember that, you were 1 at the time! So we’d laugh about that a lot.
At one point in the day, Brodie emerged from the sea, looking tall, jacked, and bronzed with his long hair & this crazy beard, and I began to marvel at how he looked like some sort of Greek God of the Sea. For the rest of the day I referred to him as ‘The Mighty Poseidon’ & I absolutely love this picture of him symbolically holding Brodie Jr. to the heavens. What a great day.
