WWE unceremoniously stopped promoting the Fight Pit match for tonight’s NXT New Year’s Evil between former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher, leading some to speculate that the match had been called off.
Dave Meltzer has taken to Twitter to note that as of yesterday, one of either Tommaso Ciampa or Timothy Thatcher was injured and it was unclear whether or not the match would be able to take place:
This likely has to do with Ciampa vs. Thatcher. One of the two is injured and as of yesterday, it wasn’t a sure thing if the match would happen or not.

Now we know the real reason that the match has been cancelled off, with WWE’s official NXT account tweeting that Timothy Thatcher suffered a big injury during training, meaning tonight’s match is off.
The tweet notes that while the match has been postponed indefinitely, the injury suffered by Thatcher is believed to be minor and nothing overly serious, which is certainly good news.
