The plans for a big gimmick match at WWE Royal Rumble later this month are still on, according to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer is reporting that WWE adding Randy Orton into the Royal Rumble last week was a “red herring when it was announced”, and there are still plans to have Orton and The Fiend have a special gimmick match at the upcoming pay-per-view.
It was also noted, though, that plans can always change between now and the Rumble.
Reports indicated WWE was planning the second-ever Firefly Fun House match between The Fiend and Randy Orton at the show, but there is now ord on those plans have been dropped for another gimmick match.
The Fiend hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since TLC last month when Randy Orton set him on fire after their controversial Inferno match that closed the show. He’ll likely be returning to Raw over the next two weeks.
