Last night’s edition of NXT featured a major upset in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. In the first match of the women’s tournament, Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter picked up the win over Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm.
Now, it seems there was more to this decision than previously thought. Bryan Alvarez commented on Wrestling Observer Live that he was told that this is supposed to be the start of a heel turn for Catanzaro and Carter. Here is the quote, courtesy of Wrestling News:
“I was told that last night, after Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter got their upset win in the Dusty Classic and Kacee did a full senton to win…I was told that was supposed to be the beginning of a heel turn for Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter.”
Catanzaro has been in NXT since 2017 but hasn’t ever really received much of a push. The same goes for Carter who has been on the brand since 2018. However, a heel turn for the team would be the biggest thing either of them have done from a storyline perspective in NXT.
